    Paraguay
I'm at PIT, waiting for the plane. Soon I'll be spending 24 hours on planes and at airports between flights, which will get me to Paraguay. Then fun stuff should happen for a few weeks, and I'll repeat the journey in reverse. The trip is 4 flights with 3 planes each way, and this is the shortest one I could find. In other news, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Mq9HAE62Y

Anyways, if you'd like me to bring something back for you from Paraguay, let me know.

If you have time, try to expand on this for me. Just add {reqphoto|in=Paraguay} to the talk page of articles of things in Paraguay needing pictures.

Looks like we're about to start boarding, so I'm packing up now. I'll be back Aug 6.

    I exist again
I just got an apartment, so I'm back in Pittsburgh for at least a year. :) I get electricity on Monday and gas on Thursday... Verizof was full of suck last year, so I think I'll go for Nidhog this time.

Unfortunately it's currently Summer and everyone is hiding...

    Back to da 'Burgh
I'm going back to Pittsburgh for an interview with a prof on Monday. Hopefully I'll be doing security research with her. I'll also do a little house hunting while I'm there. Currently planning on sharing an apartment with jnesky.

Let me know if you are up for 1/2 food, or if you can lend me a couch for a night or two just in case I can't stay with mtomczak.

    Uh oh
You know how we're always joking that one of our friends is bound to end up in jail? Well, most of you probably don't know him, but it looks like one of our family friends, who helped us a lot when we needed it, is going to be in jail for 20+ years.

Other than that, Christmas break has been ok, maybe even kind of good.

I'm in a strange state, where I'm not really hungry enough to make a real meal, or even a sandwitch, but I really want to eat small stuff, like nuts, which distracted me about 5 times while writing this sentence. And I should be going to sleep and doing homework/practice GRE.

    Drill
Anyone have a drill I could borrow? I need to drill holes in pine wood for 4 1/4" bolts.

I don't even need to take it anywhere. I can use it wherever it happens to be.

In exchange, you get to find out what I'm making. :)

Anyone with a car want to join the figure skating stuco?

    Subject: Bb F05-98011: transportation redux

We're in a bit of a pickle: we only have two known cars for 11 students and
3 instructors. Clearly, that's not enough -- and we don't know of any other
transportation options. This means there's a chance we will need to cancel
the class for this semester and try again next semester. Schenley is
generally open for about 2-3 weeks of school at the very end of the
semester, but it wouldn't be much of a skating class with so little ice
    time.

So, I'll ask again: does anyone else have a car?

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Take 98-011
I'm taking the Figure Skating StuCo, and they would like to have more people taking it. Basically we're going to go ice skating once a week on Monday nights. Since we'll be paying for the whole ice rink, the more people we have, the cheaper it is per person. The time isn't fixed yet, but it should be between 9:00 and 23:00.

It looks like this is going to be one of the good StuCos that don't try to be a real class. :)

    We blowdup the tow truck
So, we're currently stuck in Flagstaff, AZ.

Yesterday was an unlucky day )

    Other fun stuff:

Getting passed by a high speed chase while trying to pass a slow truck. The car must have been going much faster than 100 MPH, and after cutting in front of me, slowed down to the speed of the truck in front of us. Many miles later, we saw the car stopped with two police cars nearby. It didn't seem to be damaged at all. That just seemed really stupid to me. I mean, running from the police is stupid, but running and then giving up???

We stopped in Dallas to see [info]twinofhugin. It was the first time I met him IRL. We didn't really do much other than see his apartment and go get lunch. He was a lot taller than I expected. For some reason I thought he would be average TJ person size. :D

We went to 3 cavers so far. 54 degree air is nice after being in the hot sun for a long time. The ones we saw are Diamond Cavers, Mamoth Cave, and Carsbad Caverns. I didn't get pictures of Mamoth Cave, because the tour guide saw my camera bag and said I couldn't bring it. It turned out cameras were OK, so I guess it was just bags that weren't allowed.

The civil rights museum is boring. There was a lady outside trying to get people to boycott it. They don't alow cameras, which seems to be because if they did people would realize there isn't anything interesting...

I'm probably forgetting a lot of stuff. dhousman might write about it.

There will be plenty of pictures later, but for now, all you get is this.

    Going to California
I'm going with [info]djhousman to California. (But then I'm coming back almost as soon as we get there... Work)

We are leaving here Friday evening. Yes, this Friday. And I'll be coming back on Sunday the 31st by plane.

Since we'll be taking a whole week to get there, we want to do stuff on the way. What places would you guys recommend we stop at?

Sadly, the adjective "abridged" produced less interesting results. That would have been awesome.

Yay, blatant marketing gimmics. (If you don't see them, look at the high res pictures.)

I meant to say this in my previous entry. We need a name for the house. I had suggested Middle Earth, because we have a hobbit, an elf, and an ent. :) mbrewer wants a name that has house in it.

So, suggest a name, and if we end up using it you get a prize.

    Bored
If anyone is doing anything interesting in the next few days, please let me know... I was bored enough to solve this.

The reasons I'm bored is actually good. I've found an apartment, and am waiting to get the results of my rental application. I also got a job at the PDL (which is where I wanted to work), but Chuck is too busy to handle a newbie until Tuesday, so I don't start work till then.

    Happy Pi Day everyone
I helped prepare for Pi Day today...

dlevitt and I took the fence from the frats who had people in a tent entirely off the gravel. They were very pissed off of course, because they "were guarding the fence in spirit". One of them tried to negotiate with us, but we didn't really want to negotiate until mackey was there. They called their frat, and said to send everyone they could. dlevitt asked if they were going to come beat us up or something, but he said they didn't believe in violence. Then a guy they called Diego came and started throwing their stuff around and getting very upset. He called someone and told them to bring a knife. Eventually he left and said he was leaving the frat. After quite some time, mackey came, and said he had been emailing someone in the frat about sharing the fence and that they hadn't gotten back to him yet. They negotiated a bit, and agreed that we could use two rungs on one side of the fence.

Then I went with bohanlon to chalk Pi. He chalked 2049-2560, and I chalked 10241-10752.

After that was a bit of wresting Lizza, UT, half-food, and later wrestling Andy.

    Anyway, Happy Pi Day everyone.
